Gents Capture District 6-3A Title with Win Over Tigers

ST. MARTINVILLE – The Crowley Gents went 20-of-29 from the free throw line to help propel them to a 69-64 victory over the No. 7-ranked St. Martinville Tigers here Friday in the district and regular season finale for both teams.

With the win, the Gents captured the District 6-3A title with a mark of 9-1, 20-8 overall.

The Gents, leading by one point, 65-64, with 18 seconds left, sealed the victory on two free throws from Braeden Board and another two points from Board off of an alley-oop dunk from Bryan Montgomery to Board.

The 6-foot-5 Board finished the contest with a game-high 21 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter.

Montgomery also hit double figures with 16 points.  The rest of the Gents scoring were Marquarius Thorne with 12 points, Ronderick Nelson with eight points, Kyris Savoy with three points, and Jaylon Wiltz with two points.

Crowley and St. Martinville played evenly in the first half with both teams scoring 26 points.  Crowley then went on to a 44-36 lead by outscoring St. Martinville 18-10.  St. Martinville tied the game at 53-all by taking a 17-9 lead in the third.
