Gents Dominate Second Half to Pull Away from Green Demons

MAMOU –  The Crowley Gents dominated the Mamou Green Demons in the second half to finish with 337 yards of offense en route to a 33-13 victory here Friday.

The Gents improved to 4-3 overall, 2-2 in the district.

Junior Obadiah Butler led the Gents in rushing with 78 yards and one touchdown with 17 carries. He also caught five passes for 134 yards and two touchdowns.

Senior Jai’Rece Lewis added 10 carries for 26 yards, senior Markel Domino ran two times for 14 yards, and junior Marquis Garrett rushed for 12 yards and a score on five carries.

Garrett also completed nine of his 18 passes for 192 yards and three touchdowns.

Senior tight end Rapheus Joseph caught one reception for 44 yards and a touchdown. and junior wide receiver Keenan Moore-Charles caught two passes for 14 yards.

Crowley’s defensive unit showed its muscle in the third quarter when junior Kendall Harmon forced a fumble on Mamou’s opening series.  The defense also made Mamou punt six straight times in the second half.

The Green Demons finished with 55 yards of total offense, including minus 15 in the last two quarters. All five of their first downs came before halftime.

After Crowley recovered a Mamou fumble at the MHS 9-yard line, the Gents took a 7-0 lead with 30 seconds left in the first quarter when Garrett ran in from one yard out.  Kendall Richard added the extra point.

Mamou gave the ball right back to Crowley when the Green Demons fumbled the ensuing kickoff.  Five plays later, Garrett connected with Butler for a 22-yard touchdown to put the visiting Gents ahead 13-0.

On Mamou’s next series, senior Demarcus Dioron intercepted the Mamou pass at the CHS 13.  On the first play, Garrett threw a screen pass to Butler, and the junior made his way through the defense for the 87-yard score to put Crowley up 19-0 with a little over eight minutes remaining in the second quarter.

The Gents’ fourth touchdown occurred with a little over nine minutes remaining in the third quarter when Butler scored on a 34-yard run.

Garrett threw a 44-yard pass to Joseph for Crowley’s final score at the beginning of the fourth quarter.
