PRAIRIE RHONDE – The Northwest Raiders seemed to be on the verge of defeating the Crowley Gents here Friday evening, but a roughing the passer call against the Raiders helped the Gents to the 32-28 victory.

With the win, the Gents improved to 3-2 overall, 1-1 in the district.

Down 28-26, with 1:11 remaining in the contest, Crowley faced a fourth down and long from their own 36-yard line when CHS junior quarterback Marquis Garrett fired a pass that fell incomplete.

Northwest, however, was flagged for roughing Garrett, and the Gents’ continued the drive at the Raiders’ 49-yard-line.

One play later, Garrett threw a screen to junior running back Obadiah Butler, who was lined up at wide receiver.  Butler made one defender miss and did the rest to put the visitors ahead for good, 32-28.

Northwest had one more chance, and they looked like they would score themselves, getting the ball down to the CHS 7, but an intentional grounding call moved the Raiders back to the 12 with 15 seconds left.

After two consecutive incompletions, senior outside linebacker Markel Domino sealed the Gents’ victory by chasing down the Northwest quarterback at the 10.

Garrett finished the game with 11-of-21 passes for 263 yards and four touchdowns.  He also rushed eight times for 46 yards and another score.

Senior tight end Rapheus Joseph hauled in three passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns.  Senior wide receiver Demarcus Dioron caught five passes for 26 yards.  Butler had two catches for 71 yards and one touchdown. Senior running back Jai’Rece Lewis had one catch for 32 yards.

Butler rushed for 75 yards, and Lewis had three yards rushing.

Crowley took the 7-0 lead halfway through the first quarter when Garrett crossed the goal line from one yard out, and Joseph added the extra point.

After Northwest scored the next two touchdowns for a 14-7 lead, Garrett connected with Joseph from 46 yards out early in the third. Joseph added the point after to tie the game at 14.

The Raiders went ahead 20-14 with five minutes remaining in the third, but less than a minute later, Joseph caught a 51-yard touchdown pass from Garrett to knot the game at 20.

Northwest scored its final time of the night and added the two-point conversion to go up 28-20 with seven minutes remaining.

Crowley pulled within two less than a minute later when Lewis caught a Garrett pass for the 32-yard score. Garrett’s pass to Dioron on the two-point conversion attempt fell incomplete to leave Crowley behind 28-26.

Crowley will host Iota this Friday evening at 7 p.m. for homecoming.
