The Cecilia Bulldogs outlasted the Crowley Gents, 49-34, in a see-saw here Friday night at Gardiner Memorial Stadium.

The Gents dropped to 2-1 on the season.

With the score tied at 34-all with a little under 11 minutes remaining in the contest, the Gents tried to seize the lead by going for a two-point conversion.  The Gents, however, failed to convert when Crowley junior quarterback Marquis Garrett’s pass attempt was deflected at the line.

Cecilia started the scoring when the Bulldogs quarterback raced into the end zone from 60 yards away with four minutes left in the first quarter.

The Gents answered right back with a score when senior running back Jai’Rece Lewis crossed the goal line from four yards out.  The extra-point was missed to keep Cecilia ahead 7-6.

The Bulldogs went up 14-6 with six minutes left and had the opportunity to add to the lead, but senior safety Ray Thomas ended the Bulldogs’ possession with an interception at the CHS 26-yard line.

Crowley closed to within 14-13 when junior wide receiver Chris Moore caught an 11-yard touchdown pass that deflected off of senior tight end Rapheus Joseph.  Garrett knotted the score when he ran in the two-point conversion.

The Gents were led in rushing by junior running back Obadiah Butler, who had 13 carries for 135 yards and one touchdown.  He also had five receptions for 135 yards and two scores.  Lewis gained 32 yards and a score on nine carries.  Garrett finished with 13 yards on six totes.

Garrett also completed 9-of-20 passes for 212 yards and three touchdowns.  Joseph had three catches for 76 yards.

The Gents will be in action Thursday when they host the Eunice Bobcats in the district opener.
