From staff reports

The Crowley Gents, led by senior tight end/outside linebacker Rapheus Joseph, saved their best for last as they came from behind for a 16-3 victory over the Iowa Yellow Jackets at Gardiner Memorial Stadium.

Joseph accounted for all of Crowley’s points by scoring on two passing touchdowns, kicking both extra-points and recording a safety.

With Crowley trailing 3-0 to begin the fourth quarter, junior quarterback Marquis Garrett connected with Joseph on a 22-yard pass to put the Gents ahead 7-3.

On the second touchdown catch, Garrett hit Joseph in stride as he outraced a slew of defenders to the end zone from 58 yards out.

Joseph scored the Gents’ final two points with a little over two minutes left in the contest.  Iowa had the ball at their own 5-yard line when Joseph broke around the edge to sack the Yellow Jacket quarterback.

Crowley’s defense held Iowa to just 102 total yards of offense, including holding Iowa to a field goal after the Yellow Jackets returned a Garrett interception to the two-yard line.  On that drive, senior Demarcus Dioron tackled the Iowa quarterback for a six-yard loss. Dioron also had an interception in the third quarter.

Offensively, junior running back Obadiah Butler rushed for 105 yards on 20 carries, and he caught four passes for 45 yards.  Dioron also caught three passes for 59 yards. Garrett completed nine of 19 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns.

The Gents will travel to play the Westlake Rams this Friday.
