CHS head basketball coach Jason Lewis

The Crowley High Gents made its deepest run in the boy’s playoffs since head coach Jason Lewis took over the program four years ago, advancing all the way to the Class 3A quarterfinals before bowing out to Sophie B. Wright.

The Gents garnered the top two honors on the All-Acadia Parish boy’s basketball team with Lewis named Coach of the Year, and senior guard Josh Burnett tabbed Most Valuable Player.

Lewis guided his squad to a 21-game winning streak that spanned from Dec. 2, 2017 to Jan. 30, 2018. His team, which finished with an impressive 29-6 record, earned the No. 11 seed in the playoffs where they knocked off Jennings in the opening round and then upset No. 6 Union Parish in Farmerville.

The Gents ended its season the following week with a loss at No. 3 Sophie B. Wright in the quarterfinal round.

Burnett, who played a key factor in the Gents’ success, was the District 5-3A MVP and also a Class 3A All-State honorable mention selection.

Joining Burnett from CHS on the All-Parish squad is senior teammate Ja’Colby Byers.

Crowley High’s Braeden Board and Perry Myles were included in the honorable mentions.
